Beauty in imperfection
My name is Maria Rosúa, I was born in Rosario, Argentina, into a family of artistic and entrepreneurial women. They taught me art through play, and by observing them I learned that I had all the tools within me to create and be independent. Since I was little, materials, colors, shapes, and making things were part of everyday life. At 18, I began traveling the world; during those trips, I discovered metal and craftsmanship, and from that moment, jewelry became one of my life’s purposes. I studied with artisans who taught me techniques and opened the door to the world of creation. This led me to study Industrial Design, where I gained tools and gave meaning to my work. I had the opportunity to explore the world thanks to my craft, studying and working in countries like Argentina, Spain, the United States, Colombia, and India—places that inspire my collections and fill them with experiences and feelings. In 2015, I arrived in Barcelona thanks to a scholarship from my university at Escola Massana. Two years later, I moved to Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic Islands, where I now live with my family and have my workshop.
Over the years, play in the workshop has allowed me to create and express myself. At each stage and moment of my life, I find different materials to design with, from metal as a base combined with wood, 3D printing, patinas, paint, and recycled plastics.
I aim for my pieces to show contact with the material, the imperfection that makes us human. Each piece of jewelry carries time and dedication, holds energy, and tells stories.
I believe that crafting is a stance toward a complex world, which is why I seek conscious design that reflects the moment we live in, through form or materiality.
In recent years, I have focused on finding ways to add color to metal. Through experimentation, trial and error, courses, and workshops I have taken, I discovered several techniques that allow me to fill my metal jewelry with color, life, and sensations. With color, I try to warm the material, convey experiences, values, and memories. The use of patinas, oxidations, pigments, watercolors, and enamels turns my metal designs into small illustrations to decorate our bodies.
